Who had that hard rain on Christmas morning

Here in Waterford we had a good hard rain all day and evening of Christmas Eve. It continued through Christmas Morning and to some degree until mid afternoon. I bet we got another inch of rain here Christmas Eve and Early Christmas morning.

I was surprised to watch Channel 3 last late last night, and to hear them say we had zero rain to day here in the Valley.

I'm confused, unless they made a mistake on their reporting, hard to believe we had that much rain here and not have it some other places and not reported.

Ohhhh David !

You shouldn't have said that!

Don't know that when Parapeet isn't pushing Slurpees, he's a weather watcher for one of those TV stations?

Anyway, I bet you misunderstood...the " no Rain valley " comment.

Jeff, I wanted a response, or was hoping

Jeff

I was thinking I might get a response, one reason I started the tread. Maybe I could understand it better, if it was explained to me.
I would of asked directly by email, if I had parapeets or Marks email address.

When I saw the news last night, they had the temps and rain totals, and I clearly saw 00.0 or something like that in White Numbers.

Unless it just for Sacramento, but it did not say that. I have seen many times where they get a couple inches in Sacramento and up the hill from there and not a drop down here, and visa versa.

rain?

I am sorry I did not respond earlier. I have been quite busy during this American Holiday season. You would be surpirsed how many people think $8 for a quart of milk is a bargain on the morning of the 25th.
As for the 'no rain', I think Channel 3 said that Sacramento had no rain from Midnite-midnite on the 25th. The rain band moved south and gave the San Joaquin valley a good soaking.
On the topic of weather, how cold did it get last night? From what my customers are telling me this morning it could have been the coldest night of the year especially when you look at how long temperatures were in the 30's.
Back to work... my "Pre-Mad Cow" hot dogs are selling fast today!

28F here, got colder then planned

I knew it was going to get cold, I checked my exjposed gauge in my banana bed and it was 32.5 at 11 pm Friday night. Sure was low, when the humidity was close to 100%

I checked at midnight, it was 33.2, so I figured it was going up, then drop a litle later towards morning.

So I guess I had 7 plus hours at, near, and below 32F

OUCH THAT BITES

David Waterford, that really bites!

Thats really cold for your palms!

Has anyone realised what makes palms cold tolerant? Not like from where they are from, but chemically?

Kyle, they can take lower when older

Kyle

There are a lot of really nice palms which are tropical or nearly so, which would be easily wiped with temps like this. First we have to find out which ones will survive in their area easily. When you find them, then you push harder to find ones which are normally not able to survive in your area; from higher elevation or something. That is the fun and challenge.

To prevent frost damage , worth a millon

Kyle

I wish there was a away to apply chemicals and make a plant hardier. If you found something like that, you would never have to worry about money again, only how to hang on to it.

Right now the best way to improve a plants or palms frost hardiness. Is to make sure it has good drainage, and supply the nutrients it needs.

Applying sprays which seal the leaf and protect it more, does help for a few degrees.

Other then these things, I am not aware of anything.
