Anyone have a plit leaf philodendron?

I just bought a very nice one for $5 today. Could they be grown in Northern California? Is anone growingone?

They grow here

They do OK here in the shade.
Cold years they get frosted but recover quickly.

Are good, except on really bad winters.

We have one and a few other things outside under a roof or overhang which are consider more of a inside plant, and thy do ok, except for those one in 10 years when it drops a little colder then just 27/28F.

Philodendron or Monstera?

Here again is one of the problems with common names. The plant usually given the common name "split leaf philodendron" isn't a philodendron at all, but rather Monstera deliciosa. Monsteras are a bit more tender than P. selloum and need more summer heat. They are still relatively hardy, though, for a tropical aroid.

Same plants

Steve, I think we are talking about the same plant here...Monstera deliciosa.
P. selloum grows here as well and is much more hardy.

P. selloum or M. deliciosa....

I have both. The P. selloums are bulletproof. I've seen them growing neglected in a planting bed near an alleyway and a parking garage and they have trunks a few feet high, aerial roots snaking all over, and about ten mice scurrying about the roots :).

M. deliciosa, i have this one, growing under a mexican sage (S. leucantha). Its leaves are smaller than when i bought it, but it handles getting sun and chilly nights decently. I don't know if i'd plant another, but it hasn't died on me yet, and i may be surprised as it gets more established.
