My wifes mum rang up from Tampico the other day and she said it was 5c in the morning. Don't know how cold it got in the night but there are millions of coconuts there

Jason, That is chilly... Tampico is way far south of Brownsille. I wonder if the folks in Tampico even have the need for heating in a normal winter.
I'd love to find the Climate stats on Tampico, However, for some strange reason... there is not much historical weather data available on the net for most of Mexico.

You don't really need heating here in Winter unless you are a real softy : ), since you are asleep and warm in bed when ever it gets colder than 6c it's no problem and the day times are never anything that a normal wool jumper or cheap polar fleece top can't take care of. But I guess in Tampico you would be used to normal 34c/24c day/nights of the Summer so 1-5c would feel much colder than it really is

Jeff,
www.weatherbase.com has climate information for Tampico, mexico
From the data, it obvious that growing coconuts there is no big deal!

I live in tampico and sometimes the temperatures fall until 27 F, 2 or 3 times en 10 years, but the temperatures highs are in the 50 s 10 days in january and lows in the 30 s 4 or 5 day on the month. Righ now the temperature are the 53 F and is 1:00 PM. The problem here is the wind chill, the winds with the colds fronts are 45 m/h, and the wind chill is very cold.
