Asian Earthquake/ tsunami
My question is...
With regards to this bad earthquake/ tsunami of the past week , has there been any damage to the NW coast of Australia.?
It seems that AU is would be right in the Southern tack of any tidal wave.

Jeff, I think all that happened was the sea went out a bit and then came back in. I heard a couple of 4wd's that were driving on the beach up on the North Coast got some water in them and that's it. I guess Indonesia being inbetween stoped it comming here. I think there will end up being alot of Australians that were killed though, because it's a fairly popular place to go. Also most of the bacpackers that I've met in Australia do a stop over in Thialand or Indonesia or both on the way to Sydney so there would be heaps of Germans, Engilsh, Scandinavians, Dutch and Belgians there on the beaches, it will be hard to find out where everyone was from since most of them wouldn't be carrying documents on the beach

It happened on the west coast, so Indonesia wasn't in the way, but it happened west enough that the direct waves would've not hit Australia. although the waves that headed southeast would have.
I had heard that the waves _did_ reach California, but of course they were miniscule.

I just came back from Khao Lak last month, and the hotel we stayed in was destroyed. We almost were going to go over X-mas rather than Thanksgiving. I am so thankful we decided to go when we did.
Khao Lak is a small town, yet it's where the brunt of the disaster hit, with 1,500 dead and the death toll climbing. It's really hard for us to think about all the wonderful people we met and the beautiful beaches we visited. I can't even imagine the scale of the disaster.
What is wonderful though is how the Thai people are taking the disaster. They go on smiling, and they have shown a lot of solidarity, giving tourists blankets, medicine and food when they themselves lost their homes. We sure have lots to learn from these people.
I just hope all the folks we met are OK. I am sure the beaches will recover and the buildings will get rebuilt.

I Can't comprehend what everyone is going through over there. My math teacher went to Phuket on her honeymoon this winter break. I am sure she is alright, but I don't know yet.
