Durians on sale at Ranch 99

Are those seeds viable? Aren't most of those durians (previously) frozen or irradiated? Do these seeds still germinate if they were frozen before? When I ate durian bought in chinatown, they were previously frozen and the seeds were soft, like it was aborted, instead of like a nut. Whats a good seed?

The durian I bought was previously frozen. The seeds are firm and full-sized. I haven't been able to find a source to confirm or deny their viability.

There is a firm that is selling single seeds from SIngapore on EBay. Their feedback is marginal so I would be careful.

I've never tried to sprout a frozen durian seed, so I'm not sure if that will kill it or not.
As for buying them from Singapore, durians are pretty much out of season now. Though I'm guessing the Thais have some tricks up their sleeve to extend the season for a limited quantity.
Furthermore, whomever is shipping them would have to make sure the seeds would stay moist but not mold or rot along the way. If the seeds dry out, they die.

I have ordered from them several times and have always been happy with their plants and sizes shipped.

A local market obviously, but what type?-trader Joe? Berkeley bowl?
I had a friend who gave me Durian seeds he bought in Chinatown a few years ago. If that helps.
One germinated. Slower growing than the average tropical seedling.
And Merbert, the Santol is greening up. I have to post a pic-the trunk of it will surprise you....

99 Ranch is a chain of large pan-Asian supermarkets. They carry both fresh and processed foods from Asia and Southeast Asia, with a lot of hard-to-find products. I picked up very tasty longan for $1.19 a pound. I even found Pandan essance. If you buy a fish, they'll cook it free while you finish your shopping. Did your santol drop its leaves before taking off? I hear this happens often.

I did find several sources of durian seeds. However they told me that their seeds won't be available for several months.
And I bought several trees from Pacific Coast Tropicals. They have some interesting plants. Great link!
But anyway I'm interested in checking 99 Ranch out and trying one of their Durians!
