That is spring here, but it never locks in until June.

hillbilly Hawaii..

we are putting up our above ground pool today
our water warmer is 3 hoses screwed together on a hot driveway. The water is luke warm by the time it trickles into the pool.
I am going to cover the side in that roll out straw mat, a tiki or 2, drag my potted tropicals over and we are in Hawaii or Vegas or something..

Stop on by!!!!

All for us??

Not (unusual)hot on the southcoast or in the PNW?
Modesto warmer at midnight than P.S.

Donno why we so warm last night...

Light breeze and low 70's when I got home from work at midnight... My low was only 62f this am.
Almost noon... in the low 80's and the wind is picking up.
Doesn't really feel bad outside... dewpoints are low.

North winds

make us warmer during the day and night, passing across only dry land.

Also causing a lot of limbs on my chestnuts to break. I did a major top-working project last year and just thinned branches over the last couple of weeks to train these new limbs. It was needed to prevent entire grafts of being ripped out (some grew 10 feet last season), but now some have the only remaining limb broken. I'll have to wait to see if any buds remain that can push. Happens every May and is frustrating.

balmy 89.

The supermarket plumeria melted..there goes 5 bucks. The walmart Plumeria isnt looking much better. The seedling plumeria fom the dry garden nursery is fine and leafing out. It grew very well last summer in a pot, tripling in height. It has a leaf that is very pointed, short and dull, with reddish stem.Nothing like Celadine that is doing its usual slow comeback. Richard at the dry garden may be on to something we dont know about!
The seedling i planted in front with the cacti. I have high hopes for that particular Plummy.

still 84 at 10 p.m.

Right on the coast and it's a warm tropicalish night. This almost never happens here.

Wow, that's hot for the Brookings Belt...

Wow, Steve, that's crazy! Sounds like last fall, when I was in Mexico!
It's supposed to hit the high 90's here in Sweet Home before the weeks out. I've already got fans going in my growroom & everything. I've still got a bunch of B. sanguinea seeds I'm germinating, & they really don't like the heat!

It gets crazier

Right now at 10:30 p.m., it's 93F here half a block from the beach. Meanwhile, Hayward is 75, Modesto is 84. Everything seems upside down. My Brugmansia sanguinea has dropped almost all its flowers (about 20) in the past two days. Don't know if it's entirely heat-related, or if they were getting ready to drop anyway.

The heat...

My money's on the heat, Steve. Sanguinea &, I believe, vulcanicola both drop flowers & buds at consistent temps above 72F. Vulc might have an even lower heat threshold, I don't recall of the top of my head. Some of the B. x flavas & other hybrids are more heat-tolerant. That's actually part of one of the projects I'm involved in, is breeding more heat-resistent sanguineas. I guess if any more seeds come up in this heat I might be on to something :)
