Best source of delivered soil?

I need about 5 yards of rich, fast-draining soil because I'm planning on reclaiming a section of the yard that is just plain nasty. The last soil I purchased turned out to be disgusting. The first fall rain turned it into concrete and, no matter what I put in or on it, that soil stunts any plant that touches it. This time I won't trust anyone except a Cloudforester!

Delivery has to be available to Lafayette.

Thanks, y'all.

American Soils...

It will cost more than local Joe,but Merbert you have my complete assurance that the soil is high octane stuff. I used it for a friends Berkeley garden-she had good soil-the A.S. topsoil turned into fantastic quality growth. The plants just exploded that I put in for her.
And as long as your down there-order their potting soil...100x better than what you can buy from Kmart.

You have to visit them..

It's not your typical rock and gravel yard. They bring that whole Berkeley artist, new wave thing to the R&G industry and Richmond. She(the owner) has some nice exotic displays.

American Soil was great last time

Stan, I agree that American Soil is tops of the ones that I know. Now that you recommend it, I'm going back to them. I had work done last year and the person was supposed to get American and bought some crap from Diamond K that ruined that part of the garden. I've never been able to bring it back. The American Soil variety I used before was something like Organic Backyard Bragger or some other silly name. I loved the way if looked, felt, smelled, and gave plants a real alley-oop.

same result..

A few years ago,not long after using A.S. i bought some local "topsoil" from US rockery in Hayward...Felt great shoveling...when the rains came, all the sand in the mix sifted down to the center of the Earth and I had plain clay left. Never again.
American I remembered, mixed fine lava, some pumice and sand and compost, with blackclay for their topsoil. As Rich as a chocolate milkshake. Just cost too much from Richmond to Hayville. Darn.
So now i do all the mixing myself when i need big amounts-whew,work. May cost more too.

Only in the San Francisco Bay Area

Sadly, they can't deliver to you. They have two facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area and the prices are high enough, even with the short distances that they drive to our gardens.

It is nice soil. I was so impressed with Backyard Bragger mix.
