cherimoya seeds
I've read about cracking the seeds or snipping an edge before planting, but after experimenting with a few of the seeds I've come to the conclusion that there is no "outside" jacket as there is, for example, with a white sapote.
Is that right? Anything special I should do with these fresh seeds other than the usual burnt offerings to the germination deities at planting time?

They will germinate just fine, nothing special needs to be done. Any idea the source of the cherimoya?

Jack, the source is Mike Cirone from See Canyon. I asked about the variety and he said it was White (texture was slightly stringy, pineapple accents--maybe it was not quite ripe?). I didn't ask where the trees were but he does grow various white sapotes in Morro Bay (somewhere) so I assume that is where the cherimoyas come from. I can ask on Monday. Many of the cherimoyas he had last week were absolutely mammoth! (and at only $3/lb)

I knew there had been articles on Mike and See Canyon in the L.A. Times and a quick Google brought up an article from a local Santa Monica paper. In the course of the article it mentions that he purchased land "east of Morro Bay" in traditional avocado growing territory (I guess at the south end of Hwy 41?) where he was growing sapotes and cherimoyas.

Hey Steve, the only thing that I do before planting seeds is soak them in hydrogen peroxide for 24 hrs. Then plant them.Happy germinating.
