Research

m interested in root crop especially yacon, in fact we have been in Benguet State University, Root Crop Research Center for a research last year, we found that even the Institute has limited facility to study this medicinal plant. Honoestly, i'm envisioning that the Philippines would then become the no 1 exporter of yacon in the world. Can anybody help me to extend my knowledge about this root crop?

Thanks,
jacky

Needs cool climate

It's doubtful yacon will do good at lower elevations in the Philippines. I've seen yacon at the local health food store as part of another superfood fad, but it's really not a health food. It's just another root crop that happens to be good for you because veggies are good for you.

It's very easy to grow, it grows pretty much like a weed, provided you have cool nights. It needs at least 3,000 feet elevation to grow well in the tropics.

Thanks

Hi axel,

I understand that this crop should be planted on high hills at least 3000 feet, we have known that Bagiuo was the perfect place for it. actually i planted on low lands just for the sake of experimenting. Do you know exactly the market condition of yacon now a days?are they affected by economic crisis?
