Anyone growing Golden Sugar Apple?

This species prefers well-irrigated sites, and seems to tolerate flooding. It is also cold hardy at least to upper 20's for a few hours. 3 year old trees survived several nights with frost with hardly any leaf damage.

George, thank you for sending this. Actually I read the entry from Top Tropicals before buying the seedlings. Often I find their information doesn't translate easily to California conditions. I was hoping to find someone here in California as crazy as I to try it.

These guys are more like pond apples in appearance. I myself have yet to figure out exactly what species it is. I suspect they are more cold hardy than a normal sugar apple.

Abyssquick, I've heard a similar remark, stating that the plant and fruit is similar to pond apple yet the flavor and texture of the fruit is almost jakfruit-like. Some suggest that it is a chance cross of a couple of Annona varieties. A few degrees of extra cold-hardiness sounds great to me.

because the fruit looks delicious, if difficult to eat.
