Shipova grafting
I further found out that there is a tree at a collection some hundreds of kilometres away, but in this country. I have contacted them to see if I can get scion wood (next winter).
The question is - what do you graft these too?
The web suggests aronia (chokeberry?) but these are as common as Shipovas around here!
What about quince, pear, loquat? Has anyonme any information on this?

I have one grafted onto a European pear. It seems OK but isn't growing like crazy like some grafts do...

I grafted Euro pear onto my shipova tree and it worked.
I also grafted it onto aronia. Not only did it work, but it comes to flowering and fruiting much faster. Shipova is notoriously slow to come into fruiting.

From the limited reading available on this weird tree, it seems that a slightly uncompatible rootstock mmay help it fruit earlier? Is this possibly due to some sort of stress reaction?
Hopefully, if I get enough scion wood, I can try a variety of pyrus and related rootstocks and see which works best.
