Stellar year for Black Jack fig

Yes, great year or Black Jack. No, they have to ripen on the tree.

I have good figs too, osborne prolific, yellow de bordeaux, and a few others for which I don't have names. They are still ripening as we speak. It's still quite warm over here, so should be able to get good figs for at least another week or two.

An unnamed Chicago Sicilian fig that I rooted was loaded with small, extremely fragrant and rich figs, despite being only 3' x 3'. I'm definitely going to give this one room to grow!

David, is the fig as flavorful, syrupy and sweet as it looks ? I love those types, why I love the Desert king and etc varieties.
I find that figs are so under rated and not given a of attention, compared to many other common fruits.
I am learning too, how many varieties there seem to be, that I have never heard of before.
You are in Oregon, along the coast where you have some winter warmth?
David

Hi David,
The Eve's Black Cherry fig photo is from JohnValenzuela Novato,CA (see above). It had a broken link so I just re-posted it for everybody to see...
Yes, I am up in NW Oregon, but about 40 miles from the ocean. The strongest low level air flow from the ocean into Oregon blows right up the Van Duzer corridor into the hill I am on. Good and bad: very windy place (I am forever standing up blown over pots) with cooler evenings; but that marine influence means we are merely cold in winter, not COLD. Usually...
I do have figs, about 15 different varieites, all young trees still in pots. We got about 2500 growing degree days here this season (50 F base), which was enough to ripen figs.
So, anyway, you will have to ask John Valenzuala about the Eve's Black Cherry fig...
Best regards!

David, I lived in Eastern Oregon for 17 years, but no figs, only stone fruits, apples and pears, too cold as you know. I lived in John Day most of those years, 3,300 feet, only around a 90 frost free growing season, not a very forgiving environment; but fantastic place to grow wonderful apples, pears and cherries. Too much cold and too short a growing season, so I moved back to CA after I split with my abusive wife.
Thanks on setting me straight on who's pic it was, I guess my mind was off more today. I do that too, help people to post pics. A second look at thread, I see it now, but then ????

fruit tastes like it looks, very dense inside, with a rich, cherry/berry jam flavor.
I am still trying to see if anyone can identify it as another known variety synonym.
Thanks DavidInAmityOr for fixing the bad link I posted.
Come on you guys (and gals), post some photos of your figs. . . I wanna see them too!
