care of (almost) dormant actinidia kolomikta

I was elated to see that the little twig in a 1-gal pot which is all that remains of my female A.K. has broken a bud after months of looking very dead. Whew. Of couse, why it should break a bud now is anyone's guess. Like my "never say dormant" boysenberries....

I think I gave the Mr. and Mrs. Kiwi too much sun when they first arrived and now I am hoping to get them through the Fall and Winter so I can do better by them in the Spring. But they are soooooooo frail and spindly :-(

Any hints from those familar with these infants?

Too much sun?

They really are a shade plant, even up here. They get burned by too much sun.

Transplant shock

Mine looked very bad after transplanting from 1-gallon pots to the ground. I thought they were both goners, but have really sprung to life after a couple of months. They are in dappled sun.
