Fig: ground or container?

I've read that figs in containers fruit sooner than those in the ground. I just got one, about 2ft tall, looks dormant. Should I pot it up (now in a 6" pot) or plant in the ground?

Location is important

Where do you live? What is your climate like? I have a tiny 3 x 3 that I had grown from a cutting that, after putting it into the ground, developed a huge amount of fruit for its size. Another cutting-grown one in a pot has only one fig.

Yes / No

I generally plant mine when they outgorw a 5 gallon pot.

Leave it in the 6" pot for now

The roots won't start growing again until January anyways. Then you can make your decision.
