My local nursery, almost walking distance from the house, got in a nice Mexicola to add to my new avocado grove. Sure, it was a bit more expensive than the big corporate stores, but it supports the community. And it's really big!

Now that the A Types are out of the way, which B Type do you recommend as a good addition to Mexicola, Lamb Hass and Reed?

Fuerte for pollination and eating, Bacon also but not my favorite for eating. Fuerte is pretty easy to get also.

I'm pretty sure that Fuerte can't take the cold here.

The word fuerte is a spanish translation of "strong" I think it's supposed to be especially cold hardy. :D

Just to give an idea, this is what it looked like last may when I bought it.

That's astounding! I would have never thought that an avocado could put on so much lush grown so quickly in our area. I hope that mine will do have that well. They are definitely on a part of the property where they will not be coddled. Fortunately, they are in a direct line from a row of citrus trees and my beehives.

I planted a mexicola two years ago that was 3 feet tall. It's now 15 feet tall. Yes, they grow fast here. They are a high elevation tree from the tropics, so they like the cool Bay area Summer nights.

^_^ I was really pleased with how well it's grown, I've actually trimmed it about twice since i got it last may.. the growth is amazingly fast. It looks like it's setting fruit this year.. it set two last year but they fell off when they got to be pinky finger size! I've got it in a half barrel right now because of the possibility of moving.. but nothing would please me more than to put this bad boy in the ground.. lol
