I recently purchased an Avocado tree ( Hass ) and repotted it with the intention of keeping it indoors during the winter... I have been keeping the pot damp and drained, moving it indoors at night.. Trouble is, it's losing it's leaves, only 9 left..... What can I do to save this tree ??????
Any advise will be greatly appreciated !! I am at a total lose as to what to do...

Lars- I live in San Diego and have been growing avos for about a year. I have a Lamb Hass in a wine barrel, a vigorous Fuerte seedling one year old ( 7 feet tall in a 24' pot) and a Stewart that's in the ground started from a 5 gallon 9 months ago. I also have about 50 seedlings both in the ground and in containers I will be looking to graft. My fertilization regimen is frequent and organic at this time.

Do you currently have any questions regarding growing avocados?... Since your original post was not responded to until now I'm assuming the original problem has been at least somewhat solved?...I couldn't figure out where you lived, and need to know, too.

Let me know if I can help in some way...

Tony, the tree died.... Replacement seems to be doing fine... I also have several seedlings to graft in the spring.. As for where I live, sorry to say its in Indiana, sorry because I'm having real trouble growing tropical plants....
Have you or anyone tried to graft Avocados onto Sasafrass stock ???

Lars- I am blessed to be living in a prime avo growing region. Kudos to you for soldiering on in Hoosier country. No I haven't heard anything quite that exotic when it comes to avo grafting( sassafras)...I would think a greenhouse and for the most part keeping the plants above freezing would be helpful. Be particularly mindful of when and how much to water & fertilize. Let's touch base again on the subject of grafting during the spring...best wishes.
