New to the hobby

Hello all
My name is David. I'm from Torrance, CA. I started collecting fruit trees less than a year ago. I really enjoy this new hobby and is looking forward to learn from you all.
My current collection
sapodilla: alano, molix
Lychee: mauritus, kaimana, emperor(coming soon: hak kip, sweetheart, brewster)
Wax jambu: white, black pearl
Pummelo: thai, vn
Guava: Giant, crystal seedless
Cherimoya: selma, Dr. white, atemoya(unknown)
Mango: timotayo
Longan: bieu kieu, kohala
Star fruit: sour(unknown), sri kembangan
Persimmon: hachiya, giant fuyu
Jujube: Li, sherwood
Sugar apple
june plum
Seedless Lime
meiwa kumquat

Welcome David. Torrance is USDA zone 11a, and you have a bit of protection from the ocean thanks to Palo Verdes, which gives you a little more heat, so you should be able to grow quite a few tropicals. This is one of the mildest climates in the continental United States.

Do you have any pictures of your garden?
Tropical gardening in both Kaua'i windward Sunset H2/USDA 12b and Fallbrook Sunset 23/USDA 10b.

You live near me, I live in Hermosa Beach. Majority of my container garden is in Mission Viejo at my parents home though. Love your collection, the only thing I see you are missing is apples (I am sure that will change soon though :mrgreen: ). Perhaps we can trade/exchange plants and seeds locally sometime.

Hi David,

Nice to meet another passionate gardener in Torrance.
I echo Nullzero's response, and would like to add that avocados (esp. Reeds) grow very well in Torrance. I would definitely suggest adding it to your list.
