For the first time, this Yucca gloriosa 'variegata' has flowered in the summer. It always has sent it's flower stocks in fall, only to get nipped by frost in late November. I'm not sure why it's has switched gears.

Cheers, Barrie.

FWIW, my y. recurvifolia which is also normally a fall bloomer for me is also blooming now (started about a month ago)---so whatever your yucca may have that causes precocious flowering---it may be catching ;)

George, my Y. recurvifolia has always been a summer bloomer and is also flowering right now. Any of the other species I have, are not mature enough for flowering or simply have not done so yet.

Cheers, Barrie.

Nice, Barrie. I would be very pleased if it was my plant. For all the yuccas I have, I don't think a single one shows any sign of flowering. I will have to check today though!

Barrie, that is very interesting as almost all the "yucca recurvifolia" around here (with the rather lax foliage that one might reasonably associate with the moniker of recurvifolia (???) normally bloom in late aug. or sept. around here (coos bay/north bend/bandon) so one blooming now is indeed news to me (but not to you where you are, obviously). plants, you just can't trust them to do what you expect them to be or MAYBE to even be what you think they are?????????

That's a beauty Barrie. No flower stalks on any of mine.

Awsome Barrie, that is a beauty!! Always nice when they flower in the summer when we can actually enjoy the flowers. There are yuccas about to bloom all over the place right now. Most of mine are doing the same.

On a slightly different note snapped a couple pics of an all to rare sight in since 08, a flowering cordy down on the victoria waterfront. Looks like it was a monster before it got knocked down. Hopefully the winters stay mild like last and it could regain its old glory.

NIce to see that Cordyline rebounding Aaron. Looks like a number of them took a hit back then.
My wife informed me after I returned home from work tonight, that the large Yucca flower snapped off. I went out to investigate and sure enough ... snapped clean off down low. Looks like the weight was too much for it to bear.
I'll snap a pic or two tomorrow during daylight (time permitted).

Cheers, Barrie.

Too bad, Barrie! I've had that happen before. I would keep it in a vase at least.
