Just when you think you've seen it all. Along comes the Palm Parka. A device to help protect your tender palms from a hardy freeze by protecting the heart of the palm (growing point).
Ask anyone who has done this with a home made Palm Parka and they will tell you their tender palm still died from the base freezing in a severe cold spell.

I suspect this is only effective where frost could be sharp but of short duration. Such as in parts of California, southern Australia or New Zealand. Definitely would not work at my place. I need some supplemental heat under the cover to protect tender plants.

With the straps it looks more like a straight-jacket.

Cheers, Barrie.

That's for when it gets insanely cold. :o

Now if you wrapped one straight jacket for the trunk all the way to the ground and another one for the fronds with a few Christmas lights and the palm might actually make it.
