I figured it wouldn't hurt to start asking now for avocado scion's. I am looking for Kona Sharwil also just called Sharwil, GreenGold, and any other interesting varieties that might not be on the commercial radar. I've heard of an Ibis avocado and there may be some unnamed dooryard varieties as well. I would like to get ones that naturally stay under twenty feet when full grown. I might have to protect them during harsh freezes. There is one other thing I am interested in, dwarfing rootstock that is salt and cold tolerant. I would appreciate it if anyone could point me to a source, I'd like to try grafting some different varieties to it and see how they do.

Persea tree nursery has a LOT of varieties and clonal rootstocks. They are definitely focused on commercial growers but will sell to the public with a minimum $100 order I believe. They are in Fallbrook.

You might want to hit up the earth day fair (greenscene) in fullerton this coming year. This year I got 5 trees from Julie at the fair: GG, Sharwil, Queen, Hellen, and JB. You should get them for approach grafting, as I transplanted them into good stuff soon after getting them home, and have been taking good care of them, but they all seem intent on stagnation. I'm just going to approach graft them to healthier trees.

I believe it was on April 20 and 21 on last year. Pay attention this year you will definitely get a remainder from forum members.

Kinda of interesting about sharwil avocado I'm growing it didn't grow at all for the first year I planted in the ground until I grafted 2 more seedling rootstocks to it, now my sharwil is pushing out big leaves and new shoots everywhere, it looks a dwarf bushy avocado tree with beautiful leaves.

Saturday, January 18 2014 is the CRFG-OC Scion Exchange. Julie, Denny, Dewey etc. have the largest and fullest table there with all of the avocado varieties mentioned for grafting. It begins at 9am at the OC Fairgrounds. It is a free event and donation of tagged fruit tree budwood is always welcomed.

Green Scene is April 12th and 13th 2014.
