Most of my varieties are West Indies but I grow others and have several Hawaiian under evaluation. Most of the people here may be looking for cold hardy varieties of avocado. Oro Negro is probably the hardiest I have..I just started with the Hawaiians so I don't know about hardiness, most of them from Hawaii have guatemalan parentage so some may be.
I'm looking for avocado varieties that are very early or very late for possible commercial production and anything tasty for family and friends

Check my varieties in my web http://www.myavocadotrees.com

CT very impressive, what is your favorite use of Avocados? Personally I like the guacamole or honey+avocado depending on the variety.

Most of the time we eat it as a salad with olive oil, lemon or vinegar and salt may or may nor add onions. Cut them in wedges or squares. If my grandkids are home definetly they can consume a lot of guacamole. But I find that as a salad with the meal is best.
How is that honey+avocado?

Its extremely good its like a natural flan desert if used with the ripe Avocado. My friend from Sri Lanka eats them like that all the time, its very popular over there. You want a milder tasting avocado for the best dessert fruit. Use a Reed or others with less of a nutty stronger taste. Mixing a few dashes of cinnamon and allspice in.

It taste great, I suggest others try it :).

It is very good. Avocado, sugar/honey & some milk. It can be thick or blended into a smoothie. Adding some coconut would be good, IMO.

Hey Carlos,

Would it be possible to get some Scions from your "Oro Negro" Avocado tree?

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

Jacob

Null

I know this not a food thread, but it has opened up to it somewhat. I remember a few years ago, I mentioned cooking with avocados, and the main consensus of the members back then, went yuck; they just said ok to Guacamole, fresh eating and maybe in sandwiches and salads.

I love my avocado Quessidillas with high flavor green salsa. I also add cubed avocado to soaps, especially tortilla soup, Chilaquiles, nachos and etc. I was mentioning the then thread to Julie Frink, the CRFG specialist back then, wonder if I was just odd or what. She told other cultures use avocados in cooking, just not commonly known and done by main stream US society. She mentioned that her favorite use was in a cake she makes.

David, you made me look! I actually used to not like avocados at all ("green crisco"), but have since learned to appreciate them. But I never thought of them as part of dessert foods. So.....

And you're right, this is not a food thread  But who cares?!
