I am looking for Babaco Papaya cuttings or a small plant. I believe this is the right time of the year to take cuttings. I live in Sacramento and am regularly in the Vacaville/Fairfield area as well. I am also happy to pay for shipping them if someone farther away has some. If someone knows of a local source for them, that would be fine.

The only "local" source I know is the Merritt College plant sale in Oakland. The Spring plant sale is in May.

Not locally close to you, but Ben, from Ben's plant down in San Diego county has some, base on his site listing. http://encantofarms.com/poirier.html

Thanks for the info--I'm checking if they have any available.

For those in the LA area, http://papayatreenursery.com/babaco/ has 30" plants for $35, but they don't ship them and I was hoping to get a small plant or cutting for considerably less than that and grow it up to that size myself. A tree that big would be nice, but it's more than I can afford right now.

For those near Santa Rosa, https://www.facebook.com/pages/Far-East ... 0287045558 carries them. I visited that area in December the week after the big freeze and checked with them, but they said that they were hit pretty hard by that freeze and wouldn't have any in stock until spring.

Or you might want to ask your Home Depot or Lowes to special order one for you in the spring time, from one of their So Ca supplier of the Babaco plant. But your Lowes or HD would have to carry stocks from Laverne nursery first, to help order one for you. Though, I don't know how much babaco plants are for sale at either of the big box stores location, so when you called them(big box stores), might want to ask what's their retail price(the ordering is usually free, just what they are going to re sell it to you for) before asking them to order one for you.

BTW, this is the list of plants that Laverne nursery carries http://www.lavernenursery.com/products/ ... icals.html
only problem, is that they are whole sale only and no individual retail sale, that's why to ask the big box store to get one for you on their next order from Laverne.
