Acacia now in full bloom

The last time I posted a picture of this Acacia, it wasn't quite in full bloom. Here is a picture of it now. This despite being chopped back pretty savagely last summer.

Wonderful

I want it.

What kind of acacia is this? How cold hardy? Brian, where do you live?

Looks Like Dealbata, A very nice one!!

That's a beauty and a healthy looking specimen indeed. There are some nice A.baileyana at Grace Point here on our island that were in full bloom late January. I was working there pulling up some of the branches that the snow had bent. The trees have exactly the same blooms as the one in your pic. but the foliage is very different. Any of the broken branches we took to the local florist shop becasue they were covered in masses of fragrant flowers. You can see ours at www.hardypalm.com Jay just updated the site on Sunday. Acacia trees are awesome exotics, but most are fairly marginal. There are some good size melanoxylon here, but they are not blooming at this time. Cheers, Joe

Jack RE: Acacia

I really don't know for sure how hardy this Acacia is, but Joe is right about the species. Acacia dealbata. I live in Bremerton, Washington. It is to the west, across the Sound from Seattle.
