Pachypodium lamerei

Has anyone been crazy enough to try it outdoors up here? Obviously it would need major protection, but why not?

Not with all the positive thoughts in ..

Jim,here in the bay are it's a challenge..can be done. For how long?I'm still working on that,But if we had,5-10f less degree winter minimums,Another month of heavy cold rain, lack of 75-85 all summer,..they would rot.
A unheated greenhouse up there is chancy still. I just get the feeling the sun is too winter weak and summers too brief for it to recover.
I have seen 3' potted P.lamerii bloom in Berkeley.Sooo exotic. Maybe a Bandon plant kept outdoors in summer could too. Just bring indoors for the winter...

P.lamerei

My lamerei is very healthy, about 2.5 ft high, and I bring it outside in the spring and back indoors for the fall. I would never leave it outside for the winter here, but I think it really benefits from being outdoors for several months of the year. I hope mine blooms some day! It needs to go in a larger pot, so that should be a fun (ouch) undertaking.
