Foliage in the fall, not Fall Foliage

Seems with the amazing fall color this year it was easy to forget about the great tropical foliage that will still be with us (hopefully) all winter. Here's a few photos of leaves that caught my eye this morning, starting with my Melianthus that I thought I'd lost last winter.

Amicia zygomeris

Cool Mexican pea relative that I'm trying for the first time this year. Shot up from 1' to over 7' this summer, but sadly no big yellow pea blossoms this year.

Amicia zygomeris close up

Closer shot showing the nice blue leaves that fold down for the night like out of service solar panels.

Acacia dealbata subalpina

My little 4' whip I planted this summer is now up to the eave and I was struck by how I'd rather look up through it than down upon it.

Interesting pics

Never heard of Amicia zygomeris before. An interesting plant to try. Your Acacia d. looks nice. I started mine last spring (the seeds provided by Ian) but won't be planting it outside for another year or two.

Melianthus and Amicia

It's promising that your melianthus survived last winter. I haul mine in and out of the greenhouse each year. Maybe this isn't necessary. M. villosus is fine outside here.

I've never heard of Amicia either. It looks interesting.

Melianthus and Amicia

I lost the top grow on mellianthus 'major' and just have a cutting of Amicia. I just learned about this plant this summer. I love the leaves, and flower.
