Some rain followed by blue sky and sunshine. Perfect weather for working outdoors. We are working in our t-shirts after the rain passed.

The high winds yesterday snapped the trunk on my top-heavy Yucca gloriosa. I'm planning to leave the base of the trunk in the ground with the hope that it will resprout. Is there anything I can do with the top? Any yucca experts out there?

Most every yucca I have in my garden I grew from shoving cuttings into the ground. It will root and regrow easily. I just brought home some Yuccas today and when this rain dies down I'll plant them. Cheers, Joe

Yucca sp are as tough as nails...I have actually broken off branches and shoved the woody part in the ground, even in the fall and they have always rooted....good luck with it Mark..

Just pulled out my weather data for Nov. 2003. Max temp. on this day was 5.9 C. with sunny skies. The low under clear skies was -2 C., not to bad. The rest of the month was seasonal with temps. to near 10 C. and above or just slightly lower. There was one day on Nov. 21 where I see a low of 0.2 C. and a high of only 3.8 C. and light snow flurries with no accumulation. The next day high was 5.8 C. I'm banking on this month being much milder and it's starting off that way.

It was one of the three infamous Cold Halloweens (the others being '02 and '06.) We had a rain/snow mix on Nov. 2 and another brief burst of snow about a week before our Thanksgiving. It was definitely one of the coldest Novembers in my memory.

November 2003 wasn't that bad here, go back several years to Nov. 27, 1985. Now that was one to bitch about. I remember that one so well. I worked outside on the coldest day from early in the morning until 10 pm at night. Snow was blowing sideways from the outflow winds that were howling. My low temp. was -16 C. I lived in south Langley by the way, zone 8a. None of the coldest winters here in the Gulf Islands compare to what I have experienced out there. Even our worst here is mild in comparison in my opinion. Vancouver airport that same day was approx. -14.5 C.

I remember that year very well, too, Joe. It was my first fall after moving back to Seattle from LA. A friend was coming up from LA and she called to say they were showing people skiing on the streets of Seattle on her local news. "Don't worry. It'll all be gone in a day or two". The snow remained for the entire 2 weeks she was here. It was horrible. And unbelievably cold.

Chuck, Working outdoors in that was hell. I remember my fingers and toes feeling so frozen I hurt! What made it so hard on the plants, is that it was an early hard freeze.

I was three years old, but I clearly remember snow on the morning of November 10 in The Dalles (we got it on Nov. 9 in 1986!) My grandparents' house up at 500 ft. had about an inch or two outside.
Then Mom and I moved into a new apartment right before Thanksgiving, which was when we had that horrible freeze. Looking at the records on Wunderground, it's amazing how cold it was and how long it lasted!
Then we had early 1993, and I remember the snow being on the ground for week after week, continuing right up into early March.
