Northwest Palms
for joe in saltspring----bacharis species
since i dont post on the other board----bacharis species are fairly wdely distributed in milder parts of u.s. and mexico---mostly as medium to tall shrubs. the one pictured (a s.e. species) is the largest that i have ever seen pictured. the native species here (from around the mid oregon coast down into california) is b. pilularis aka "coyote brush" which generally tops out at around 6-8' (2-3m) and is most commonly seen in the ground cover cutlivars "twin peaks" and "pigeon point" other species are native to california and the s.w. they can be tough drought tolerant evergreens but the flowers are rather small though generally honey scented. they are members of the daisy family (which includes asters and dandilions) and might be considered analogues of the distanltly related oleareas and similar "tree daisies" of sustralia and new zealand.

Thanks George
That is awesome info. It is something I wasn't familiar with and when I saw someone post a pic. of it on the other forum I thought it was a nice looking specimen. Cheers, Joe
