80mm for last 48 hrs in my backyard

I wish I have covered the palms, fortunately it is not cold enough to cause any real rot damage - yet.

I still remember,

seems like not that long ago, complaining on the Forum about the drought. Yesterday I thought I was going to float down to the Ganges Harbour. I believe we are already above the average precip for November and there is much more to come. But no arctic air in the forecast, which is good.

Rain?

My place did get a drenching, but is nice and sunny and mild today. 10c and no jacket or layers today. T-shirt and thin button up shirt for working outside today.

What month is it again?

wet wet wet

It rained just over an inch yesterday in Sequim. I couldn't get much done outside. Oh well, that's better than Port Angeles 2.95" for the same period. Rainshadow's taking a break this fall I guess.

Heavy rain

In recent years it seems like the storms have been tracking slightly further north on a regular basis...quite often Eugene will be drier than average while the Puget sound and southwest BC are getting drenched. Wonder why? And how much rain is SSI supposed to get in a normal year?

Oddly enough, the drier winters here haven't translated into a drier feeling to the air yet. Winter still feels really damp and we still get plenty of lushness in the spring. Although it hasn't affected our ecology too much yet, I worry that if the pattern continues for much longer the native plant palette may start to shift.

Rain

Eric, these islands are much drier than surrouning areas because we are in a rain shadow. Usually 30-36" inches annually. Last year 30" inches here an that inclues snowfall as well. Last night it rained hard, 27.9 mm to be exact and the power went out for just over 3 hours. I have been watching the news and on the mainland and parts of Vancouver Island I see lots of flooding. One thing we never worry about here is flooding because our entire island is high and dry. After all of that rain last night I woul be lucky if I coul find one or two puddles on my entire property. Living up high of sandstone and shale the water disappers quickly. Cheers, Joe
