Nanaimo Palm Removed !

I recieved a phone call at work today from a society member who lives in Nanaimo . He said as he was driving by the Trachys that are planted along side the Island Hwy. The excavator was removing the tallest and oldest Trachy. He stopped and asked why in the heck are you removing the palm . They told him it was getting way to big to protect , and probably will be replaced by a smaller specimen . Those parks board people obviousley haven't done their homework on Trachys. Those palms should never need protection ,and they should have left the thing be . There are to many uninformed gardeners out there ! I was very upset when I heard the news . Possibly someone in Nanaimo should write a letter to the editor in the local rag . Cheers , Joe
