Latisectus and frost / Keith's Takils
There is a Latisectus in SW France that is doing well in a week-long hard cold spell. It just went thru minus 8C without damage. I noticed that Latisectus has less deeply divided leaflets. Freezing rain is expected in SW France. Lots of damage is expected. -Cold in southern France is taking its toll. French palm nuts are having a very bad start to winter. But their bad experiences permit me to explore palm tolerance. They have observed that Washingtonia defoliates way before S. Palmetto. They don’t seem to worry about Fortunei in the areas hit by minus 13C.
Is anyone in the PNW growing a Latisectus in his yard?
Keith has some Takil sprouting also. He expects most of them to sprout. He has hundreds of Takil seeds. His butia seeds - at least 500 - are still inactive.

Hi Denis , I don't of any T. latisectus growing on our south west coast , but possibly there are some members with seedling size specimens ? Also there is a very large old Jubaea chilensis growing in Normandy , and it withstood the test of time . I believe it even has scars in the trunk from WWII . It has endured some rather chilly winter minimums in the past . Cheers , Joe
