Bonsai palm tree

Bonsai palm tree

I was just browsing the web for information on bonsai palm tree's and I found a site that has actually accomplished doing so. www.fukubonsai.com grew a Phoenix Roebilini and trained it as a bonsai specimen and it looks mighty impressive. i was curious if ANYONE has heard of such a practice with palm tree's or has attempted it. The link is: http://www.fukubonsai.com/3a3f.html
if anyone wanted to check this impressive piece of art work out. Any info would be great on this topic!

bonsai palms

Hello R. Wagoner
I have been growing t.fortunei as bosai for about 15 years. I started with seedlings about 3 years old and put 3
of them in a 12" by 14" shallow bonsai pot. I did light root pruning every 2 years and keep no more than 5 fronds
on each trunk. Although they are not together anymore they are all doing fine and have some interesting growth
habits. 2 of the palms have decided to grow a trunk that is horizontal with the heart and fronds curling up to virtical.
I think this is due to the roots on one side of the trunk being stronger and slowly pushing the trunk over. I have tried doing
a better job wiring them in to the pot and also deeper pots. Nothing I've done has helped. The other one is growing upright
and has 3-4 inches of trunk plus the heart and fronds. the trunk is 2 inches in diameter, and the fronds range from 8" to 12"
in diameter. When I remove a frond I peel it off of the trunk so that the trunk is bare. This help to bring things into proportion.
T.fortunei is easy and does well as a bonsai. Give it a try.
