New Palm Website

A new palm site is on the web, I have some palms & exotics for sale, and am currently working on a database of growing advice on palms using your experiences. Come check us out but keep in mind the site is just starting out!

can you ship 15 gallon ,with rootball

I think the people on this board would like to know what you can successfully ship to the NW, and what sizes you can manage. We have some nurseries in San Diego that are shipping 15 gallon larger palm ,some with a minimum rootball and some bare root in a large box, mostly up to 30 lbs. of weight.

Would like to see botanical names

It would be nice to see botanical names on everything. Epithets like "purple queen" or "rose banana", much as they may have vernacular currency in Florida, are meaningless elsewhere as they have no botanical legitimacy. The use of vernacular names is also a bit of a "red flag" in terms of business image. Scientific nomenclature is the standard of professional growers.

Steve Snobatata

How's that for the latin nomenclature. As long as you can communicate , isn't that what's important. There is nothing wrong with people using the common names unless they want to act like a pretentious snob. We are not impressed. You don't want to alienate the average Joe . If some guy wants to appreciate , grow, and care for a Jelly palm or Chinese Windmill , who has the right to disparage them by your pompous attitude.

Scientific names

I agree with Steve on this. Common names may be okay for the average person, but professional growers better darn good and well know (and post) the botanical name also.

A grower that doesn't know the correct name obviously is very amateur.
